Founded in 1796, Matsuuraken has been making sweets for 220 years, spanning eight generations. The company inherited the recipe for making castella from Dr. Kamiya Untaku, a doctor who served the Iwamura Domain. In addition to its specialty castella and kuri-kinton chestnut dumplings, Matsuuraken produces and sells a variety of Japanese sweets.
